We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Lay Pastor to join our team at St Mark’s Haydock, with a specific focus on overseeing and leading our youth, and supporting our children’s ministries. As the Lay Pastor for Youth and Children, you will be responsible for developing and promoting a culture where young people can encounter God and grow as disciples of Christ. This will involve:
- Working closely with the Vicar, Associate Minister, and the wider church team to ensure the vision for youth work aligns with the overall church vision of “Knowing Jesus—Loving each other—Caring for our Community”.
- Taking a lead role in planning and coordinating special events and activities for our youth and children’s ministries, such as youth groups, holiday clubs, and community outreach.
- Building, training, and maintaining a team of volunteers to deliver the youth and children’s programes.
- Offering pastoral care and support to young people, as well as partnering with parents and carers.
- Overseeing the youth ministry and providing leadership and vision for both children’s and youth ministry.
- Representing the voice of young people in the church and ensuring their integration into the wider church community.
- Managing the resources and budget for the youth and children’s ministries.
- The ideal candidate will be a passionate disciple of Jesus, with strong biblical knowledge and the ability to communicate the faith effectively with children and young people. They will have recent experience in leading youth work in a church context and be a committed, active member of a Christian church for at least the last 3 years.
In addition, the successful applicant will possess the following qualities:
- Motivated, positive, and organised, with the ability to prioritise competing demands
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to respond tactfully and diplomatically to the needs of the community
- Proficient in using digital media and technology to reach young people
- Excellent communication and teaching skills, with experience in delivering assemblies and lessons in schools
- Ideally with a full driving licence
