Location: Cardiff, Wales
Contract: Initial 3-6 Month Contract (Potential for Permanent Placement)
Pay Rate: Up to £37 per hour (Umbrella)
Sector: Charity/Non-Profit

About the Organisation:
Join a dedicated Welsh Cancer Charity that provides crucial support to children undergoing cancer treatment and their families. This temporary position has opened up due to the departure of a long-standing team member, presenting a unique and meaningful opportunity to be part of a supportive, impactful environment. Previous agency workers have praised the team's collaborative spirit and positive management.

The Role:
This is a family-facing position where you'll provide essential support to children receiving treatment for cancer and their families. Your role will be pivotal in offering both practical assistance and emotional care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Services: Assist families with benefit applications (e.g., PIP, Blue Badge) and provide guidance tailored to their specific needs.
  • Emotional Support: Offer compassionate, empathetic support to parents and families navigating complex, often challenging circumstances.
  • Caseload Management: Manage a caseload of 30-35 cases, varying in complexity, ensuring each family receives the care and assistance they need. Some out of county travel will be required, approximately one day a week as caseload will be spread Wales-wide.
  • Collaborative Work: Work closely with health teams and social services when necessary to coordinate holistic care plans.
  • On-Site Presence: Be based primarily at the Cardiff hospital, where the team operates out of a shared office with a dedicated space for social workers. The ward and parent accommodation are conveniently located within the same building.

Ideal Experience:

  • Experience with bereavement support, particularly for palliative cases.
  • Work with children with disabilities and families experiencing major life changes.
  • Experience in the third sector or charitable organisations is a plus.

Ideal Attributes:

  • Resilience: Ability to remain strong in emotionally demanding situations.
  • Empathy: A genuine ability to connect with families and provide comfort.
  • Professional Boundaries: Maintain clear and respectful professional boundaries.
  • Integrity: Uphold ethical standards and the charity's core values.
  • Self-Management: Comfort with autonomy and self-directed work.

Other requirements:

  • Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent plus consolidation if required
  • Registration with Social Care Wales
  • DBS on the update service or willingness to complete a new DBS application at your expense.

Benefits of Joining:

  • Be part of a warm, supportive team known for their dedication and strong leadership.
  • Work in an environment that values your input and supports your professional growth.
  • Enjoy meaningful work that has a direct, positive impact on the lives of children and their families.

If you are a qualified social worker with a passion for supporting families through challenging times, this role provides an opportunity to contribute to a cause that makes a true difference.
