Sheldon Phillips is seeking an experienced Children with Disabilities (CWD) Social Worker to join the London Borough of Islington on a locum basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-structured team dedicated to supporting children with disabilities and their families.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Carry out statutory assessments under the Children Act 1989, including Child in Need and Child Protection assessments.
  • Develop and implement care and support plans that meet the individual needs of children with disabilities.
  • Work collaboratively with families, education providers, health professionals, and other agencies to ensure the best outcomes for children.
  • Conduct safeguarding investigations and contribute to child protection conferences, core group meetings, and Looked After Child reviews where required.
  • Provide direct support to children and young people with disabilities, ensuring their voices are central to all decision-making processes.
  • Manage a complex caseload, ensuring compliance with statutory duties, including Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), direct payments, and specialist services.
  • Support transition planning for young people moving into adult services, ensuring continuity of care and support.
  • Prepare and present reports for court proceedings, tribunals, and multi-agency meetings as necessary.
  • Ensure all case recording and documentation meet legal and local authority standards.
Requirements
  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
  • Experience working within a Children with Disabilities team in a statutory setting.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, SEND legislation, direct payments, and the Children Act 1989.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multi-agency team.
  • Strong report writing and case management skills.
