Our Client is a renowned Not For Profit organisation, who seek to equip political leaders and governments to build open, inclusive and prosperous societies. They do this by working with governments across multiple countries, largely in Africa, the Middle East and Asia to help bring about change within their country, through technology solutions and political insights, which will improve lives.


Now in a state of growth, this is an incredibly interesting and exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join their legal team, to support the Legal Director on a broad range of matters, from corporate structuring, to employment law, as well as general commercial contract drafting and negotiating and data protection. This role would suit a newly qualified solicitor, from either private practice or in-house and ideally has an open-minded and entrepreneurial approach to the law.


Key responsibilities:


  • Provide timely, responsive and practical approach to the delivery of legal advice;
  • Advise on and support legal aspects of the formation, structuring and operationalization of foreign branches and subsidiaries;
  • Lead and manage ongoing corporate compliance responsibilities across the group of companies and subsidiaries;
  • Provide advice and support related to right to work, immigration and visa matters in the U.K. and abroad;
  • Maintain the organisation's UK visa sponsorship licence and make necessary filings, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations;
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts with donors, counterparties, and key partners;
  • Draft, develop and review policies, particularly those related to legal and regulatory risk and help monitor compliance with said policies;
  • Support the design and delivery of key training internally;
  • Support due diligence process, reviewing (or where necessary, conducting) counterparty due diligence, escalating any concerns discovered;
  • Review and update legal templates;
  • Build good internal and external relationships to support effective delivery;
  • Manage external counsel and professional advisors;
  • Identify areas of cross department/project collaboration as well as areas of process where internal processes can be improved;
  • Support junior members of the Legal team in their development;
  • Assist the Legal and wider team with ad hoc tasks and projects that may be required from time-to-time;


Experience required:


  • Qualified to practise law in England and Wales;
  • 5+ years of experience either at a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal team, with experience working with a global organisation;
  • Experience with and sound understanding of commercial and corporate law, including those relevant to an international organisation headquartered in the United Kingdom;
  • Experience with international, not-for-profit organisations strongly beneficial;
  • Excellent drafting skills with the ability to work on a variety of legal documents;
  • Ability to recognise legal and regulatory risks and implement risk management strategies;
  • Strong understanding of current legislation, regulations, and legal frameworks;
  • Fluency in English required;
  • Additional languages are desirable particularly Spanish, Portuguese, French or Arabic;
  • Willingness to facilitate the legal training and qualification of junior team members, including supervising or line managing junior team members; and
  • Capability to evaluate and improve internal practices and procedures.
