Our team is large, friendly, and collaborative, engaging in diverse and high-profile international events and activities. We coordinate messaging on UK financial services policy overseas and also lead technical and legal mechanisms to support cross-border trade and financial services business. This is an exciting period for global finance, with significant geopolitical changes and technological innovations crafting the sector.

About the Job

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

• Taking a leading role in crafting a financial services package for senior ministerial engagement with China and supporting policy formulation and negotiations.
• Leading efforts to establish robust UK-China capital market links, driving policies that will improve connectivity between UK and Chinese bond and equity markets.
• Developing policies that strengthen UK-China partnership in asset management and pensions.
• Building and maintaining positive relationships across the FCDO network in China and within Whitehall to influence policy development and advance UK interests.
• Leading on ministerial briefings, speeches, and analysis, crafting narratives and conducting analysis to highlight opportunities and risks in China's financial sector.
• Contributing to government economic security policy, ensuring financial services interests are coordinated into cross-Whitehall policymaking.
• Supporting broader corporate objectives at all levels.

This key role relies on a proactive individual who can thrive in building relationships with partners, demonstrate political understanding, and has a track record of delivering policies. You will concentrate on strengthening the UK's financial relationship with China and Hong Kong, working alongside the Chinese government, and guiding policy development to reflect UK strategic priorities.

About You

You possess strong analytical skills and excel in partner engagement, with the ability to digest, communicate, and use sophisticated information to drive policymaking. Your strategic and diplomatic abilities allow you to find opportunities, establish a vision, and garner support. You excel at working independently, handling a full workload, and consistently meeting deadlines under pressure. Your experience in international or financial services, coupled with your ability to simplify sophisticated concepts for non-technical audiences, makes you an ideal candidate for this role.
